Strap on your utility belt usb to hdmi and don your face mask—the DC Universe Online beta has arrived. Sony Online Entertainment has finally opened up a server for testing that allows players to take up sides with villains like the Joker and Catwoman or heroes like Superman and the Green Lantern and play through a portion of the new MMORPG.

In DC Universe Online, the world is faced with a crisis—an invasion by Brainiac once all the superheroes and villains have killed each other off. Lex Luthor, who witnesses the invasion, travels back through time to warn his new allies, Batman and Superman among them, and to spread Brainiac's tiny "exobots" through the general population, giving them superhuman powers. He hopes to create a super-army that will be able to stop playstation move gun Brainiac in time.

LOS ANGELES — Federal authorities in the first-of-its-kind game-console-modding criminal trial abruptly dropped their prosecution here Thursday, “based on fairness and justice.”

The government has decided to dismiss the indictment,” prosecutor Allen Chiu told the judge shortly before the jury was to be seated on the third day of trial.

The announcement came a day after a whirlwind of legal jockeying in the case against defendant Matthew Crippen, a 28-year-old Southern California man. The government charged that Crippen, a hotel car-parking playstation move accessories manager, ran a small business from his Anaheim home modifying the firmware on Xbox 360 optical drives to make them capable of running pirated or unauthorized games.

Though Congress still bickers over net neutrality, spying on Americans, and universal health care, at least Democrats and Republicans can agree on one thing: TV commercials are too damned loud. After approval by the House, the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act is now on its way to President Obama's desk. It was passed by the Senate earlier this year.

Rep. Anna Eshoo's (D-CA) bill will require commercials to be at the same decibel levels as programs during which they play. Once signed, the CALM Act will give the FCC a mandate to regulate and enforce volume limits on commercials, ensuring iPhone 4 Cases that their maximum loudness does not exceed the average maximum loudness of the program they're accompanying. Advertisers will have one year to implement technology to keep the volume levels in check.

Rep Eshoo noted that the FCC has received complaints about loud commercials since the 1960s, and that the issue has been the number one consumer complaint about TV in 21 of the last 25 FCC quarterly reports.

"Consumers have been asking for a solution to this problem for decades, and today they finally have it," Rep Eshoo said in a statement. Thanks to the CALM Act, "consumers will no longer have to experience being blasted at—it's a simple fix to a huge nuisance."

Those in the Orbiting HQ still subjected to LED Watch commercial TV (Netflix, anyone?) are already celebrating.

ds card

06/12/2010 11:56

This is a followup R4i Red to this thread about using a Third party Java tool for PDF compression. I didn't get successful font rendering for the compressed PDF file using the included command options for tool.pdf.Compress, so I left the '-noembed' option out, but you can use your own command options as also described in a comment to that earlier hint by changing them in step 23 of the Workflow. This Workflow is long but it demonstrates a technique I sometimes use for building and executing shell commands. Since then I created a Snow Leopard Service for executing the compression process.

I tested on a clean 10.6.4 system. Remember to download iPhone 4 Screen Guard.

Safari allows you to Drag and Drop images from a web page straight into an Apple Mail mail message. With Chrome that does not work. It produces a placeholder icon in the email message.

To be able to do this you will need to detour through Preview. Copy the image from the browser window and create a 'New From Clipboard' document in Preview. Select all of the image, copy it again, close the preview window, and paste it into the e-mail.

The reason for this is that Chrome sets the properties of the Clipboard entry differently and Mail gets confused as to dstt how to display the pasted content.

For keyboard fans this is the following sequence:

Cmd+C (Copy), Cmd+Space (Search), 'Preview', Enter (start Preview), Cmd+N (New from Clipboard), Cmd+A (Select All), Cmd+C (Copy), Cmd+W (close Preview window), Cmd+Tab (switch to Mail), Cmd+V (Paste). Voila!

When I send messages to my students, I frequently need to have a table with borders, etc. included in the body of the message. Mail doesn't seem to offer the ability to create and ds card format tables, so I use the following multistep process.

I create my message in TextEdit or Bean, including any tables with the formatting I desire.

Select the message

Copy and Paste it into Mail

The resulting email can still be edited. Both the source document and the mail message must be in Rich Text Format for this to work.

It provides an alternative to clicking a selected track in iTunes then hitting the play button. That action, of course, results in continued playback until the rest of the playlist to which the track belongs has finished playing, whereas running the script results in cessation of playback after the selected track has finished playing. If multiple tracks are selected, only the last selected track plays. Keyboard shortcuts remain available for Accessories iPhone 4 controlling transport actions while the track plays. To give the script a keyboard shortcut (emphatically recommended), use the instructions found here (among other places). I gave mine the shortcut Command+Option+P. Works in 10.6.4 with iTunes 10.0.1.

New LED Watch

The Stuxnet worm, a complicated piece of  usb to hdmi malware apparently engineered to disrupt Iranian uranium enrichment, could be modified to attack more industries, according to experts speaking to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

The widespread interconnection of corporate networks and use of SCADA systems means that industrial infrastructure is increasingly vulnerable to software attack. Such control systems are used in virtually every industry—food production, vehicle assembly, chemical manufacturing—and are commonly exposed to insecure networks. This leaves them vulnerable to tampering, such as with Stuxnet, as well as intellectual property theft.

The Stuxnet worm was both complex, using a range of techniques to infect machines and spread through playstation move gun networks, and carefully targeted, with a payload specifically designed to attack Siemens SCADA software. Together, these properties together make it uniquely dangerous. Dean Turner, director of the Global Intelligence Network at Symantec Corp., told the committee that the "implications of Stuxnet are beyond any threat we have seen in the past."

The majority of infections were found in Iran, which has led the Iranian government to describe the attacks as an "electronic war [...] against Iran." The authors of the worm are still unknown, though the complexity and careful design point at a well-resourced and sophisticated attacker. Though the committe was warned that Stuxnet-like attacks playstation move accessories could target many industries, they were also told that the complexity of the malware was such that such attacks may nonetheless remain rare, too difficult for most would-be hackers to pull off.

The experts said that industry and government alike must do more to protect critical infrastructure from attack. Michael Assante, head of the newly created, not-for-profit National Board of Information Security Examiners, told the Senators that control systems should be isolated from other networks to make them harder to penetrate. "We can no longer ignore known system weaknesses and simply accept current system limitations," he said. "We must admit that our current security strategies are too disjointed and are often, in unintended ways, working against our efforts to iPhone 4 Cases address" computer security challenges.

Senator Joe Lieberman, the panel's chairman, said that computer security legislation would be a top priority once lawmakers return to work in January. A couple weeks back, we announced a science video contest, one in which our readers were asked to explain a scientific concept using easy to follow visuals. Any area of science and math is open for consideration, provided the contents are accurate and compelling.

We're still over a month away from the contest deadline, but the first few entries have already come in, and they each take a different approach to the science. So we thought we'd share them, both for your enjoyment and possibly to give you a bit of LED Watch inspiration.

Laser Pen

30/11/2010 10:45

Calling their laser pen product “The One”, you can’t say that Woow Digital doesn’t have some chutzpah. The little-known electronics company is preparing for a tablet release in a big way, with an initial release in Japan at a price tag of ¥42,000 ($504). With specs that include a 10-inch  1024×600 resolution screen and  an NVIDIATegra 2 core, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of flash storage, it’s pretty much worth the price. Throw in an Android Gingerbread OS and wireless connectivity provided via Bluetooth, WiFi and WCDMA 3G, and you’ve got a pretty good product.

Release date is pegged before Christmas and you’ll probably find many of these under a Christmas tree.

This is a bit of good news for those who’re hankering iPhone 4 Case for a new e-reader. Asus seems to be planning to release their DR-900 e-reader – which everyone was expecting next year. Now slated for a November 29 release,   the problem is that it’s supposed to only be released in Taiwan. Coming with a price tag of NT$12,000 or $390, it should be cheap enough to order it from abroad – comparing the new Kindle DX’s $379 price.

Specs include a nice 9-inch SiPix e-paper display – definitely not the standard. It’s also got 4 GB of internal storage and access to the Internet via integrated Green Laser pointer Wi-Fi and 3G, as well as an optional WiMax module. It’s supposed to support PDF, TXT, MP3 and ePub file formats.

A great choice if you’re looking for an e-reader – though you’ll have to wait a little for it to reach American shores.

Somewhere in Austria and Germany, Asus has just unveiled a new powerhouse netbook apad dubbed – Eee PC 1015PW.  This new Eee PC netbook boasts of Intel Atom N550 Dual Core Processor, 10.1-inch display, 250GB HDD, 1GB of RAM and an extra 500GB storage via Asus’ WebStorage where you’d get free one year access to the server and store your photos, movies, and music collection.

Design-wise, the Eee PC 1015PW sports a striking, corrugated surface structure and comes available in designs with shades of  purple, pink and gold. The Eee PC 1015PW gives you a netbook running on 6-cell battery pack which could probably max you out for more than  hours of usage.

The Eee PC 1015PW will hit the Austrian and German headrest DVD player market sometime in December.

ps3 jailbreak

26/11/2010 15:43

What I learned is that you really just have to plug ps3 jailbreak it in, right? And if something goes wrong, unplug it. It's not the end of the world. It's actually kind of hard to destroy an ATmega328. It's kind of hard to destroy an Arduino. There's thousands of them out there, and those things are rock solid. The worst thing that you do is reverse power on something. You go, “Ooh. Oh, shoot! I hooked it up wrong.” You un plug it, and then plug it in the right way – it'll probably still work! Electronics are being built more and more robust every day.

Don't worry about it. If it sparks, unplug, right? That was kind of fun actually, right? I've learned the most whenever stuff sparks! You learn a lot from your failures. If it smokes, “Man, that was fun.” Turn it off. If it heats up, check it and plug it back in, right? Some things need to heat up.

Yes sir! >>Male audience member: You had the blender example at the red led watch beginning and said you sell stuff that integrate electronics with high power equipment like 120 volts.

Nathan Seidle: good question. So how do you interface to like main power – 120 volt/220 volt – stuff like that? As an embedded engineer that does most of his stuff with batteries, 120 volts scares me – 110 volts, stuff like that. We do have some high power relays. We do have some tutorials. The reflow toaster controller is one where we try to turn on and off a toaster oven to help with reflow. We also have the PowerSwitch Tail that allow you from a 5-volt pin to turn on and off a very good  blue led watch extension cord effectively. So, that is a big problem to turn on and off blenders, but there's lots of ways to hack it. Be safe. If you're messing with 120, be very safe. But if you're messing with batteries, especially alkalines, they'll internally limit themselves and shut themselves down.

Don't be afraid of trying something new. That's why I started SparkFun Electronics. Whenever I was trying something new – I was working on that microcontroller project – that's when my programmer sparked and died. But you see that's when I was having the most fun! It's when you're right out there on the edge, when you have fun and create the most apad android.

The picture in the background is the GPS wall clock. At SparkFun, we were selling GPS modules. And I wanted to show people that GPS gives you longitude and latitude. But a lot of folks didn't realize that it's very accurate time. So I went to Home Depot, and bought a bunch of materials. And, you know, you could build a clock, right? With little 7-segment displays. Or you could build a 24 inch per segment 12 foot long GPS clock, right? It lights up the office green!

And the best part was when we had just put this up. I don't know if you can tell, but there's an LCD monitor sitting right underneath it. That was Eric's desk back in the day. He was one of the employees at SparkFun. So he's working there on the computer. And Pete, one of the jokers in the office would walk by and say, “Hey, Eric!” And Eric would turn around, “Yeah, Pete.” Pete would go, “Hey, Eric – do you have the time?” Eric would go [looking down]. “Yeah Pete it's 3:15.” “Oh, thanks.” Pete would walk back by. “Hey, Eric. Do you know what time it is?” “Dude, it's like 3:45, why do you keep asking me iPad cases?” And the joke is that there's a giant clock directly behind him. And Pete just kept pulling Eric's leg – he had no idea.

The iPad replacement parts

24/11/2010 10:36

every few weeks or so, I reiterate my iPhone Speaker wish for an Android analog to the iPod Touch — something more or less comparable to state-of-the-art Android phones in terms of performance, software, and quality, but costing, say, $250 (or less) with no contract.

There are some maybes out there already, I know.1 But why do I even care? Basically it’s that I’d like to stay up to date on Android, and on Android apps. Sort of like how if my primary interest were console video games, I’d almost certainly own both a PS3 and an XBox 360. I have this notion in my gut that if I want to stay current on mobile app platforms, I should have at least one Android device to go along with iPad replacement parts my iPhone and iPad.

But, the thing I’ve noticed, eight months after returning a Nexus One I borrowed for six weeks from a friend, is that, well, I don’t seem to be missing much.

I’ve complained, numerous times, about the “how many total apps are in your store?” metric — the idea that Apple is “winning” because there are more iOS apps than there are apps for any other mobile platform. If quantity of app titles were all that mattered, we’d all be using Windows, not Mac OS X, right? Having the most apps matters, but having the best apps apad matters too. The sweet spot for a platform is to do well in both regards.

Quantity of titles is, in some way, a measure of a platform’s strength. But what I care about are the great apps. Where are the great, or even good, exclusive third-party apps for Android?

Let’s sort all Android apps into the following categories:

   1. Apps from Google.

   2. Third-party apps that also exist on iOS.

   3. Third-party apps that are exclusive to Android.

From my time spent with the Nexus One early this year, I know that Google’s Android apps are pretty good. These include both the R4i SDHC core system apps, and the closed-source “Google Experience” apps like the dedicated Gmail client and Google Maps.

There are definitely a fair number of apps in the second category — those ported to both iOS and Android. Examples: Amazon’s Kindle client, Pandora, and a few popular games, such as Angry Birds and Doodle Jump.

But what I find striking is that the apps in the third category — those exclusive to Android — are almost entirely unappealing or irrelevant to iOS users.

That’s not to say there’s nothing in Android, as a system, that appeals to iPhone owners. Built-in turn-by-turn navigation on certain models. A system-wide notification system. Widgets on the homescreen. Over-the-air system updates. Unrestricted background processing for third-party apps, battery-life be damned. But those are things that are built into the Changjiang W007 system itself, or which otherwise come from Google. What I’m questioning is the strength and depth of Android’s third-party developer support.

Wonderful SmartQ V7

20/11/2010 11:26

Now that it's announced, it seems like DS Card it was inevitable, doesn't it? TT Games and Disney Interactive Studios have revealed that the latest franchise to get the LEGO videogame treatment is Disney's blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean films, with a release date planned to coincide with the upcoming fourth film next May.

Simply called LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game, the title will feature Captain Jack Sparrow and "other familiar characters" (you know, the characters never particularly beloved enough for people to bother remembering their names). As with previous LEGO games like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean will feature storylines from the three previous movies, as well as the upcoming witstech a81 fourth movie, On Stranger Tides.

"The action-packed world of Pirates of the Caribbean is a perfect fit for LEGO video games," said Tom Stone, managing director of TT Games Publishing. "With so many wonderful characters, in such amazing environments, our teams are having great fun -- and we're sure that players will, too."

Yesterday, BioWare revealed a single teaser image for a new game they plan to announce during the Spike TV VGAs SmartQ V7 next month. And in what will sure come as no surprise to you, it took only 24 hours for an anonymous source to spread a rumored synopsis of what we can expect: a multiplayer-focused Mass Effect spin-off.

As Kotaku reports, a "development source" tells them the game is being made by BioWare Montreal, which contributed to Mass Effect 2 during that game's development. And by "multiplayer-focused," that doesn't mean to expect a massively multiplayer game like Star Wars: The Old Republic; rather, the source says it's more along the lines of the multiplayer offered in the Call of Duty series. Which makes enough sense, since the core action in Mass Effect is essentially an over-the-shoulder shooter.

This source also says the game will have a single-player component, but it'll put players in control of a character other than Commander Shepard. And while obviously none of this is confirmed yet, there is some corroborating evidence: Kotaku points out that BioWare Eken M002 Montreal was specifically looking for multiplayer programmers back in June (via CinemaBlend), and BioWare CEO Greg Zeschuk has also previously stated that they intend to make more games in the Mass Effect universe outside of the main trilogy.

Torne, the digital video recorder (DVR) unit that connects to the PlayStation 3, has been a tremendous success in Japan. It received high marks from Famitsu and has sold extremely well since its launch in March.

Today Sony announced that update 2.10 "this winter" would add Twitter functionality to the popular service. While the on-screen menu already tells you how many other Torne users are watching a given R4i Red program, this update will allow you to actually read live tweets related to what's happening on screen.

Best iphone 4 case

19/11/2010 10:27

"Everyone who has a Google account DS Card should visit their Dashboard once a year," Google product manager Jonathan McPhie told me in a meeting room at Google's Chicago office. "It's like Google's way of showing you our hand—let you see what info we have on you—and allow you to change it."

As the holidays draw near and people turn to the Internet to do their gift research and shopping, Google is on a renewed push to make users aware of the plethora of privacy settings available to them. But even when they're not trying to hide their jewelry purchases from their spouses, much of the general population is blissfully unaware of what can be done to keep witstech a81 their personal information in check. "We want it to be something that your grandma can understand," McPhie said. Warner Bros. is scrambling to identify who leaked the first 36 minutes of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 to dozens of BitTorrent sites.

The movie SmartQ V7 does not open until Friday, but Potter fans who want a sneak peek currently have plenty of unauthorized options.

Last night a portion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 was stolen and illegally posted on the internet,” Warner Bros. said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “This constitutes a serious breach of copyright violation and theft of Warner Bros. property. We are working actively to restrict and/or remove copies that may be available. Also, we are vigorously investigating this matter and will prosecute those involved to the full extent of the law.”

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is something of a polarizing figure. His loud, bombastic style on stage stands in stark contrast to the generally more reserved demeanours Eken M002of other CEOs, and his tendency to gloss over what he sees as irrelevant detail with a cavalier "blah blah blah" rubs many the wrong way. Even after thirty years at Microsoft, Ballmer is nothing if not enthusiastic about the company and the work it does, and sometimes that enthusiasm boils over.

The contrast is particularly striking when we look at Apple. Though there are certainly similarities between Jobs and Ballmer—neither CEO is a straight-laced, buttoned-down, ordinary businessman, both have high-profile public images and personas, and both, apparently, have tempers—Steve Jobs is seen as almost the diametric opposite of Steve Ballmer. Steve Jobs does go off the reservation iphone 4 case from time to time, but his manner is orderly, precise, and controlled.

SmartQ V7 & Eken M002

16/11/2010 12:21

One of the more debilitating symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder is the flashbacks that force those DS Card suffering from PTSD to relive the events that caused the trauma in the first place. There are drugs that can limit some of these problems, but they tend to have a global impact on memory consolidation, which may have unwanted side effects, like eliminating first-hand experience of the events, preventing both society and the people present from possibly learning anything from the experience. But a team of cognitive scientists have used some of the ideas of their witstech a81 field to suggest a mental activity that may block the consolidation of memories that trigger the flashbacks: playing Tetris.

The concept, which was first published in 2009, is based on our understanding of

visual recognition and memory consolidation. The authors cite a number of papers that have demonstrated that performing visual cognitive tasks interferes with the system that handles visual imagery. Put another way, if you're busy solving a jigsaw puzzle, your ability to recognize a face will suffer. The relevant SmartQ V7 understanding of memory is that it takes about six hours for a memory to be consolidated, during which time the process of storing it can be interfered with.

Microsoft has updated the Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit to include Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. As has been the case with previous service packs, soon after SP1 hits the RTM milestone, it will first go out on Windows Update (WU), and then eventually Microsoft will push it out via Automatic Updates (AU).

Users who don't want SP1 will be able to simply disable AU. Many businesses, however, prefer to keep AU on, but block the service pack so they can first test to make sure it works with all their software. The service pack blocker will allow them to continue having Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 update automatically without SP1. The tool is valid for 12 months following general availability of the Eken M002 service pack. After that, Microsoft will push out SP1 to everyone with AU on, regardless of whether it has been blocked.

The tool kit consists of three components: a Microsoft-signed executable, a script, and an ADM template. All of them set or clear a specific registry key that is used to detect and block the Service Pack download from WU. Companies can choose the one that works best with their computer management infrastructure.

Microsoft released the Release Candidate (RC) of SP1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, two weeks ago. Microsoft says it expects to release the final Acekard 2i version of SP1 in the first quarter of 2011. Microsoft typically updates the Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit two months before a service pack's release. If Microsoft sticks to this timeline, we can expect SP1 in January 2011.
